If you have a second battery on board, you'll need a suitable charging solution. The Charge Mate Pro charging relay allows you to efficiently distribute power from the charger or alternator between two battery banks, such as the starter and auxiliary batteries. The Charge Mate Pro connects both batteries during charging and keeps them disconnected during discharge. This significantly reduces the risk of a flat starter battery, for example.
Compared to mechanical charging relays, the Charge Mate Pro offers an additional advantage by limiting the charging current to the secondary battery. This ensures that the primary battery, such as a starter battery, is charged first. Reverse current is automatically blocked even if the secondary battery has a higher voltage. An emergency start function can be implemented by connecting an optional bypass switch to the Charge Mate Pro.
An example of an application in shipping is connecting a bow thruster battery to the service battery. The Charge Mate Pro ensures that the service battery is always charged with priority. By blocking the reverse current from the bow thruster battery, it guarantees that the bow thruster battery remains charged. At the same time, the current limiting prevents power outages in the onboard electrical system.
The Charge Mate Pro series includes 40-amp and 90-amp versions, both suitable for charger or alternator applications. The Charge Mate Pro 90 provides a higher charging current, for example, when charging lithium-ion batteries.
